The Mosquito as the Arkansas State Bird
The Mosquito
The sender writes:
Hello from Arkansas! We certainly have our share of mosquitoes here! Several years ago I went to the Canadian Rockies, thinking how great it must be to not have mosquitoes - wrong! They had more than we have here!
The postcard is postmarked in 2013 and also features a Razorback Hog / Pig.

Hog Wash
Hog Wash
Photographer - Ron Kimball

If somebody says something which is patently false or untrue, you're liable to to say that it's hogwash. The term comes from the fact that what a pig does that resembles washing doesn't actually leave them very clean. The simple fact is that Pigs are not particularly clean animals.
Also, they don't sweat. When they want to cool off they use mud to lay down in - not particularly sanitary by our standards, but certainly effective. If you were to give a hog a bath, he would just go and roll in the mud some more.
Hench the term "hogwash" for anything which isn't true.

Viivi and Wagner from Finland

Viivi & Wagner is a somewhat absurdist Finnish newspaper comic strip drawn by Jussi "Juba" Tuomola.
The titular main characters are Viivi, a Finnish woman in her twenties, and Wagner, a mature male pig. Wagner has all human characteristics and feelings, yet still considers himself a pig instead of a human. Though often mistaken for married, the two are cohabitating in an Odd Couple-ish relationship and genuinely fond of each other when not bickering.
