You Know You are from Wisconsin When ...

You Know you are from Wisconsin when...

You've seen mosquitoes with landing lights.

You decided to have a picnic this summer because if fell on a weekend.

Your 4th of July Family picnic was moved indoors due to frost.

You define summer as three months of bad sledding.

Wisconsin's people are known for their rich and diverse cultural backgrounds and hard work ethic.  They are not however unable to poke a little fun at themselves now and again - one time eh?

Donald with a Drink Umbrella in the Rain

Donald is mad as usual!

This is postmarked from Finland in 2006.

- - - - - - -

Donald Duck is a cartoon character from The Walt Disney Company. He usually wears a sailor shirt, cap, and a red or black bow tie, but no pants (except when he goes swimming). Donald's most famous trait is his easily provoked and occasionally explosive temper.

According to the Disney canon, particularly in the 1942 short Donald Gets Drafted, Donald's full name is Donald Fauntleroy Duck. Donald's birthday is officially recognized as June 9, 1934, the day his debut film, The Wise Little Hen, was released. However, in The Three Caballeros (1944), his birthday is given as simply "Friday the 13th", which is in reference to the bad luck he experiences in almost all his cartoon appearances. Donald's Happy Birthday (short) gives his birthday as 13 March.

Donald's voice, one of the most identifiable voices in all of animation, was performed by voice actor Clarence "Ducky" Nash up to 1983. It was largely this semi-intelligible speech that would cement Donald's image into audiences' minds and help fuel both Donald's and Nash's rise to stardom. Since 1985, Donald has been voiced by Tony Anselmo, who was trained by Nash for the role.

See you later

This postcard features a buzzard / vulture getting ready to pounce on a dehydrated donkey.  I'm not sure about the happy rabbit.  He looks like he's ready to pounce on the donkey too!

Sheep Agree About the Weather in Iceland

Three out of four sheep agree: in Iceland we have weather.

Storhofoi, Heimaey Island,
Vestmannaeyjar (Vestmann Islands),
off the south coast,
Icelandic sheep (Ovis aries)
Icelandic name: kindur
2009

The sender writes:
I could not agree more with the saying on this card.  The weather is like this.  If you don't like the weather in Iceland, just wait 5 minutes!

Vestmannaeyjar -

Small group of islands off the south coast of Iceland. The volcanic island of Surtsey emerged from the ocean in 1963, and in 1973 the volcano Helgafell erupted, causing the population of 5,200 to be temporarily evacuated and adding 2.5 sq km/1 sq mi to the islands' area. The eruption created the volcanic cone of Eldfell. Heimaey, the largest of the islands, is one of Iceland's chief fishing ports.
